Nursery assistant apprenticeship

Job description
A small private day nursery, established in 2005. We are located in the Heath area of Cardiff, with excellent public transport links. Serving the children of both NHS and private clients, we provide a comprehensive selection of childcare arrangements and support of trainees throughout their apprenticeship.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Nursery Assistant apprentice to work in this local setting.

Some of the key duties of your role will involve

  • Attend all training relevant to your role and apprenticeship
  • Contribute to play activities in an indoor and outdoor environment 
  • Ensure rooms are attractive and welcoming and comply with Health and Safety requirements.
  • Toileting duties
  • Look upon the setting as a “whole” where your help can most be utilised, be constantly aware of the needs of the children
  • To be flexible within the working practices of the setting. Be prepared to help where needed, including undertaking certain domestic jobs e.g. preparation of snack, cleaning duties, covering in other rooms etc.

As you learn on the job you will be working to ensure you deliver flexible, high quality care that meets the needs of the young children and their families. Including adhering to compliance with all company policies, Health and Safety legislation, Healthy Workplace, Healthy Pre-school, Dental Hygiene, Early Years Foundation Phase (EYFP) framework, and requirements as set within the national minimum standards (CSSIW).

Entry requirements

Maths and English at GCSE Grade C or above desirable. If you do not hold these grades you must be willing to complete Essential Skills as part of your qualification. 

You must hold a level 2 childcare qualification. 

Skills required
  • Previous experience of caring for, or working with children aged 0-5 in a voluntary or paid capacity would be an advantage
  • A commitment to the provision of high quality childcare.
  • A positive approach to learning and gaining new skills through teamwork and training opportunities.
Personal qualities
  • Good organisational, record keeping and planning skills.
  • Punctuality.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Patience.
  • Reliability and trustworthiness.
  • A positive approach to inclusive practice with children and colleagues.
  • Enthusiasm for working with young children.
