Job description
A vacancy has arisen for an apprentice Childcare Assistant working in a nursery setting.

Purpose of Post

1          To provide a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care for children placed in the Setting;

2          To give support to other personnel within the Setting;

3          To implement the daily routine in the base room.

Responsible to

Manager, Proprietor, Room Leader, Deputy Manager

Duties and Responsibilities

To build effective relationships with children and their parents/carers.

To get to know the children’s needs to when participating in or leading activities, learning will be more precise and effective.

Work with parents/carers of special needs children to give full integration in the Setting;

Support all staff and engage in a good staff team. To share jobs equally as a room and communicate effectively.

Liaise with and support parents/carers and other family members;

To be involved in out of working hours activities, e.g. training, monthly staff meetings, fundraising events;

To be flexible within working practices of the Setting. Be prepared to help where needed, including to undertake certain domestic jobs within the Setting, e.g. preparation of snack meals, cleansing of equipment etc.;

Work alongside the manager and staff team to ensure that the philosophy behind the project is fulfilled;

Following all policies and procedures of the setting at all times.

Look upon the Setting as a “whole” where can your help be most utilised, be constantly aware of the needs of children;

To put safeguarding children as your top priority and ensure you are caring for their safety and well being at all times.

To respect the confidentiality of information received and know where to keep it.

To develop your role within the team, heading towards becoming a key worker.

 

Specific Child Care Tasks:

·         The preparation and completion of activities to suit the child's stage of development;

·         To ensure that mealtimes are a time of pleasant social sharing;

·         Keeping the settings as clean as possible at all times

·         Washing and changing children as required;

·         Providing comfort and warmth to an ill child;

To ensure the Setting of a high quality environment to meet the needs of individual children from differing cultures and religious backgrounds, and stages of development;

To be aware of the high profile of the Setting and to uphold its standards at all times.

To ensure the setting’s policies and procedures are adhered to at all times.

To ensure the nursery is clean at all times and keep up with the high cleaning standard.

To inform management of any changes that may affect your suitability to work with children immediately.

To thoroughly risk assess all areas of the daily routine to ensure children are safe at all times.

To be punctual and have good attendance.

To keep up with the room paperwork

Entry requirements

Good Numeracy - A-C Grades in Maths or equivalent.

Good Literacy - A-C Grades in English or equivalent.

Skills required

Commitment to working with children

Good communicator

Passion for working with and developing own skills in emplyment

Personal qualities

Outgoing personality

Great if able to work using own initiative

Willingness to work as part of a team

Commitment to a pathway of learning in a vocational setting.

Qualifications taken

Level 2 Childcare qualification

Functional skills in Maths and English if required
