Nursery assistant apprenticeship

Job description
Little Pips Nursery in Chippenham offers a caring, family-friendly environment which enables children to develop and thrive in a safe and secure atmosphere. They are now looking to recruit two trainee nursery assistants into their nursery to progress to a level 3 apprenticeship.

The purpose of this post is to contribute to a high-quality caring environment for children. This includes creating a warm, friendly and stimulating atmosphere in which the children can develop emotionally, socially and educationally through individual attention and group activities. 

This role will involve the following duties and responsibilities:

To attend all training relevant to the role and deemed appropriate by the manager/training provider

To be aware of the nursery's confidentiality policy and all other policies the manager deems appropriate

Understand the importance of teamwork

Support all staff and engage in a good staff team

To attend out of working hour's activities e.g. training, monthly staff meetings, parents evening, fundraising events etc

Recording accidents in the accident book, ensure the line manager has initialled the report before parents receive it

To participate in keeping planning, observations and learning journeys accurately and up to date

Contribute to good standards of safety, hygiene and cleanliness in the nursery

To undertake such other duties and responsibilities of an equivalent nature, as may be determined by the trainee's supervisor from time-to-time

The trainee's duties must at all times be carried out in compliance with the nursery's equal opportunities policy

Look upon the nursery as a 'whole' where your help can be most utilised, be constantly aware of the needs of children

To respect the confidentiality of all information received

To ensure the provision of a high-quality environment to meet the needs of all individual children

To develop and maintain strong partnerships and communications with parents/carers to facilitate day-to-day caring and early learning needs

To be aware of all emergency and fire evacuation procedures

Entry requirements

A - C Maths and English at GCSE (or equivilant) 
 

Skills required
  • Previous experience of caring for, or working with children aged 0-5 in a voluntary or paid capacity.
  • An understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage.
  • A commitment to the provision of high quality childcare.
  • A positive approach to learning and gaining new skills through teamwork and training opportunities.
  • Interest in the care, learning and development of young children.
Personal qualities

 

  • Good organisational, record keeping and planning skills.
  • Punctuality.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Patience.
  • Reliability and trustworthiness.
  • A positive approach to inclusive practice with children and colleagues.
  • Enthusiasm for working with young children.
Qualifications taken

Level 2 or 3 in childcare dependent on previous qualifications
