Care assistant apprenticeship

Job description
The support worker supports the service users. It can be physically and mentally demanding and the person appointed to the post will be expected to have an understanding of the service user. You do not require any previous training as full training will be given but previous experience of work in a care setting would be helpful.

Duties and Responsibilities:

To provide individual and/or group interaction, care and support for young adults with autism/ Learning Difficulties

To ensure that each young adult’s social education and care is supported within a caring, safe and stimulating environment.

To adhere to Codes of Conduct for Adult Social Care Workers

To promote and uphold the privacy, dignity and respect of each person.

To assist with the range of care and support activities designed to meet the individual and/or group needs of the young people.

To assist with the organisation and development of care planning.

To assist, whenever necessary, with personal care, offering advice and guidance to the young people.

To work within agreed time limits and maintain all appropriate written records as necessary and as directed.

To attend and contribute to all relevant meetings and case reviews as and when directed.

To work as part of a team and demonstrate a positive and supportive attitude to teamwork.

To liaise with other staff and any external agencies as may be directed from time to time.

To undertake such staff development and in-service training as may be advised from time to time.

To administer prescribed medication in the absence of senior care worker or manager, or on the request of the manager or senior care worker, and record appropriately (after appropriate training).

To work within all policies and procedures and to be aware of Equal Opportunities and Health and Safety legislation

To record anything pertinent to Health and Safety requirements.

In accordance with the Health and Social Care Act 2008, the post holder will actively participate in the prevention and control of infection within the capacity of their role.  The Act requires the post holder to attend infection prevention and control training on induction and, thereafter, regular updates, and to take responsibility for the practical application of the training in the course of their work. 

To provide sleep in duties on a rota basis (once fully qualified)

To undertake any other such duties, within the competency of the post which may be directed from time to time.

Entry requirements

GCSE A-C grades in Maths and English or equivalent

Skills required

Willing to work as part of a team

Committed to completing a qualification

Great if able to work using own initiative

Personal qualities

You must have a passion and desire to work with mentally and physically challenged adults

Caring nature

 

Qualifications taken

Full training up to Level 2 Adult Care Worker standard, with the possibility of progressing on to a Level 3 qualification

Functional Skills for Maths and English (if required)
