Who is the apprenticeship aimed at?
The teaching assistant apprenticeships are designed for people working in school support worker roles and who want to move into a more specialised position. The apprenticeship is a work-based qualification, so you will need to be in an appropriate job role where you will be assessed and develop your portfolio of evidence.
The teaching assistant apprenticeship is suitable for individuals in a range of roles, including:
- Teaching assistants
- Learning support workers
- SEND learning support workers
- Post-16 academic support workers
How will I be assessed?
You will study a variety of mandatory and optional units which will reflect your workplace responsibilities.
Your Assessor will use a wide range of assessment methods in order to collect evidence for your portfolio to demonstrate your knowledge and competency. Assessment will be ongoing throughout your qualification and will include observations, written questions and professional discussions.
How will the qualification be achieved?
The Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools framework comprises of a range of mandatory and optional units.
Learners will be supported by a dedicated Assessor throughout their qualification, together with Tutors for the Essential Skills qualifications. The framework will be delivered via monthly workshops, workplace visits and remote learning sessions and a portfolio of evidence collected via our e-portfolio system, Smart Assessor.
What qualification will I achieve?
On completion of your framework, you will achieve your Level 2 or Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools and three Essential Skills in Application of Number, Communication and Digital Literacy.
What support will I get from my tutor?
Once you have registered with us, you will be given access to our e-portfolio system called Smart Assessor. Smart Assessor will contain all the resources you need to help you complete your framework. You will also be supported by a dedicated Assessor and Essential Skills Tutors who will deliver your framework via monthly workshops, workplace visits and remote learning sessions
What can I do next?
Upon completion of your qualification, you can work in specialised school support worker roles in management, administration and learning support.
If you have done your level 2 you could progress on to a level 3 apprenticeship.
