Quality Manager

To take responsibility for the management of quality across all ATWL provision, including Apprenticeships and commercial courses, to ensure the company meets or exceeds the standards expected from internal and external stakeholders.

Key duties


  • Undertake audits of teaching, learning and assessment and implement interventions with teams to achieve the expected standards.
  • Share and disseminate best practice in teaching learning and assessment across the company and teams.
  • Undertake standardisation workshops with delivery teams on best practice.
  • Ensure that colleagues and learners are safeguarded against all types of bullying, radicalisation or abuse.
  • Ensure CPD and professional competency is maintained

Quality and compliance: 

  • Undertake and manage peer review processes including mock inspections and observations to ensure provision is accurately benchmarked against external requirement
  • Coordinate, prepare and lead on all external quality assurance visits, ensuring registrations processes are followed and centre status is retained.
  • Produce and manage the quality improvement plan to ensure actions reflect the areas of concern raised in the self-assessment and that actions are completed in a timely manner.
  • Undertake and manage the observation of teaching and learning processes including moderation.
  • Monitor under performance and undertake remedial action where appropriate.
  • To produce performance reports, as directed by your line manager

  • Act as key link between ATWL and VSP on quality by implementing or influencing new processes or policy.
  • Act as the nominee for all VSP Estyn inspections and co-ordinate inspection activity.
  • Manage the quality assurance strategy across all sectors ensuring sampling is sufficient and in line with awarding organisations requirements.
  • Produce the annual self-assessment report ensuring it is an accurate reflection of company performance
  • Support creation of course curriculum ensuring to meet the needs of all stakeholders and is in line with requirements to enhance teaching, learning and assessment.
  • Ensure that feedback from learners, employers and employees is routinely gathered and used to inform quality improvement.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with external stakeholders and peer organisations to develop and share best practice.
  • Participate in company and VSP meetings.
  • Investigate and take action on customer complaints.
  • Promote a positive and professional image of the Company and all of the services it delivers.


  • Coordinate, manage and run an annual schedule of learner and employer forums collating feedback and implement feedback into practice.
  • Identify new areas of delivery that enhance or sustain current success rates.
  • Identify good practice of success that can be used for business cases and tenders.
  • To adhere to ATL’s Code of Conduct, policies and procedures at all times
  • To demonstrate and uphold ATL’s values at all times
  • To demonstrate a commitment to safeguarding and to promote the safety and welfare of all stakeholders
  • To maintain the responsibility of data protection, ensuring awareness of all Company policies and procedures relating to data protection and to adhere to any instruction(s) given pertaining to this.
Knowledge, skills, behaviours
Knowledge & Experience ·        Extensive working knowledge of the work based learning sector

·        Experience of leading an Estyn inspection with a positive outcome

·        Clear understanding of the Common inspection framework

·        Clear experience of implementing and monitoring of a quality cycle

·        Estyn peer inspection

Essential Qualifications ·        A1 assessor award or equivalent

·        V1 verifier award or equivalent

Desirable Qualifications ·        Management level 4 or equivalent
Skills ·        Ability to speak Welsh (desirable)

·        Excellent written and verbal communication skills

·        Organisational skills and a sound attention to detail

·        Excellent numeracy skills

·        Excellent IT skills
