Take the fright out of your future with an apprenticeship

Thinking about your future can feel daunting, but an apprenticeship could help you to get the skills and experience you need to see your future clearer – taking the scare factor away when it comes to looking ahead into your career.

Daunting Debt

It can often feel like all roads lead to university when looking at the choices for further education, but with costly tuition fees and potential costly living expenses if you are moving away from home, it might not be the best solution for everyone.

Getting into a large amount of debt debt before you even have a chance to start your career will leave you in a difficult position, and could leave you feeling like you are in a helpless situation as it could take you years to make even a dent in this debt.

Those looking at starting an apprenticeship can get help from the government to pay for the training and assessment required, so you won’t be left with a huge bill to pay at the end of your course.

Eerie Experience

When looking for a job, work experience is often required by the employer to ensure that you have business acumen and excellent communication skills. Apprenticeships are an excellent way of gaining general workplace experience, understanding how a business works and improving your personal and social skills – as well as gaining skills and knowledge relating to your industry.

When compared to studying at university, an apprenticeship will provide you with a platform to gain practical experience in a real work environment. Research commissioned by the Association of Accounting Technicians that was conducted among 1,000 organisations shows that employers prefer candidates to have experience from an apprenticeship more than having a degree. When asked why, 71% said it was because candidates had demonstrated their skills in a practical setting, and 62% said it showed they had a better understanding of the world of work.

Worrying Wages

Each year, the government specifies a minimum wage that employers must pay their apprentices. Although pay may be less than a full-time job

A study published by the Sutton Trust found that apprentices with the highest qualifications can earn £50,000 more than a university graduate over the course of their lifetime. Research also found that apprentices who train up to a level five qualification could potentially take home almost £1.5m in the course of their career on average, beating the typical graduate.
