The government apprenticeship incentive scheme is extended and increased
In July last year, the government announced an incentive that was to be made available to all employers hiring a new apprentice, giving them the opportunity to claim up to £3000 depending on the age of the apprentice.
This current scheme was due to end on March 31st 2021 but in the latest Budget given by the chancellor, it was announced that the scheme has not only been extended but also increased.
Employers will now receive £3,000 for new apprentices of any age who join their organisation from 1st April 2021 to 30th September 2021. This is in addition to the £1,000 employers were already eligible to receive for hiring an apprentice age 16-18 years old.
Employers can apply for incentive payments for these apprentices from 1st June 2021 to 30th November 2021 via the apprentice service account.
For all apprentices that were hired between 1st August 2020 and 31 March 2021, the previous incentive scheme applies:
- 16 to 24, employers will receive £2,000
- 25 and over, employers will receive £1,500
To claim the incentive for apprentices hired within the above time frame this must be done before 31st May 2021.
