Level 3 Health and Social Care Apprenticeship

Apprenticeship Overview

This qualification is designed to equip learners with the skills and knowledge needed to care for others in a broad range of health or social care settings.

A diploma in health and social care is flexible to suit all fields of health and social care. Learners can select a pathway that suits their role – for example, working with people with a learning disability, people with dementia or children and young people.

Learners will be supported by a dedicated Assessor for their qualification, together with Tutors for Essential Skills. The framework for the Level 3 Health and Social Care qualification will be delivered via monthly workshops, workplace visits and remote learning sessions using a range of assessment methods including observations, discussions and written questions.

Level 3 Health and Social Care Qualifications

We offer two level 3 qualifications in health and social care at Aspiration Training:

  • Level 3 diploma in health and social care (children and young people)
  • Level 3 diploma in health and social care (adults)

This is a work-based qualification, so learners will need to be in an appropriate care setting where they will be assessed and can develop their portfolio of evidence for their Health and Social Care learning and experience.

This is the main qualification required by the Care Councils in Wales so it is one that is invaluable to both learners and employers.

How Long Does the Health and Social Care Apprenticeship Take?

The apprenticeship course for Health and Social Care Level 3 takes a total of 18 months. This includes the completion of all mandatory units by the learner who will be supported by the employer and apprenticeship provided.

How Does the Health and Social Care Apprentice Learn?

Apprentices do most of their learning at work when training to be a health and social care worker and benefit from regular contact with their dedicated assigned assessor. There is coursework to be completed while on the course, which is to be submitted online, however, the knowledge to complete this is provided while learning inside your business.

How Much Do I Have to Pay an Apprentice?

Apprentices must be paid at least the national minimum wage for apprentices if they are aged 19 and under or aged 19 and over and in their first year of an apprenticeship.

Apprentices are often paid higher amounts as their skills develop and we encourage employers to do so to encourage growth as a health and social care worker.

What Are My Responsibilities as an Employer to my Health & Social Care Apprentice?

There must be a genuine job available with a contract of employment long enough for an apprentice to complete their level 3 apprenticeship within Health and Social Care. You must pay an apprentice’s wages and the role must help them gain the knowledge, skills and behaviours they need to achieve the apprenticeship with support.

You will need to have:

  • an apprenticeship agreement in place with their apprentice for the duration of the apprenticeship
  • a commitment statement signed by the apprentice, yourself as the employer and us as the training provider
  • for employers who pay the apprenticeship levy and use the apprenticeship service; you will need to have a contract for services in place which we can support with
  • an apprenticeship in place for at least one year
  • the apprentice on the correct wage for their age, for the time they are in work, in off-the-job training and doing further study

Once you have registered an apprentice with us, you will be given access to our e-portfolio system called Smart Assessor. Smart Assessor will contain all the resources you need to support and view the progress of your learners in Health and Social Care.

Apprentices’ will also be supported by a dedicated Assessor and Essential Skills Tutors who will deliver their apprenticeships via monthly workshops, workplace visits and remote learning sessions.

You will also have a dedicated account manager who can support you with any questions you have about your employees progress and progression.
