The importance of Dental Care: Dentaid

Dental care is crucial for maintaining overall health and well-being. This is why providing quality dental care to underserved communities is a fantastic opportunity that can benefit a lot of people.

At Aspiration Training, we are proud to support organisations like Dentaid who set out to complete this. Dentaid is a charity dedicated to improving oral health worldwide. Established in 1996, Dentaid works to provide dental treatment, equipment, and training to communities with limited access to dental care. Their projects span across more than 70 countries, including remote areas where dental services are not as popular. By deploying volunteer dental professionals and mobile clinics, Dentaid addresses urgent dental needs and promotes long-term oral health education.

In February 2025, our very own Vocational Coach Sophie Godson, will be travelling to Uganda where she will work as part of a volunteer team treating hundreds of people who have no other access to dental care. There are busy trips with the teams treating up to 200 people a day. There’s often a long queue but people are happy to wait because this could be the only chance they have to see a dentist. Earlier this year, our Dental IQA, Aleah Thorpe, also travelled to Uganda. Whilst in Uganda, Aleah was amongst a team of 13 people, including 3 dentists, 3 dental therapists, 6 dental nurses and a team leader. With 9 clinic days starting in Entebbe before heading East, South, then West, the team had 6 chairs running at any one time and managed to see over 1,350 patients giving 634 extractions, 467 topical fluoride applications, 242 fillings and 136 scales. All patients were given a toothbrush and toothpaste and the patients welcomed them with open arms...and mouths!

At Aspiration Training, we believe that education and hands-on experience are essential for effective dental care. Our apprenticeships offer aspiring dental nurses, hygienists, and technicians the opportunity to learn from experienced practitioners in real-world settings. These courses not only build technical skills but also allow our apprentices to get a deep sense of empathy and commitment to community service values that resonate with the mission of Dentaid.
