Supporting our communities – integral to a truly caring culture
For a number of years and with increasing success Aspiration Training has focused on fund-raising for charities, selected by employees, and never more so than in 2010.
Adrenalin generating abseiling, energy sapping cycling and car washing and fun and laughter pub-crawling (well in part) crayons – yes, that’s right, have all played a part in an imaginative and diverse number of charitable events. And pleasingly, every employee has played a part.
Perhaps, the most daring, for the second year running (2009 involved a bungee jump), goes to members of the Welsh administrative team who undertook abseiling down the side of building on a damp and dreary Saturday morning in the centre of Newport. Well done Heather Foster and co.
A more colourful event was undertaken by members of the Welsh childcare team (left) who, dressed as crayons (well sort of) embarked upon a scamper through the streets of Cardiff, gently and not so gently, persuading passers-by and unsuspecting occupants of local hostelries to support the Welsh teams chosen charity, for the second year running, St David’s Foundation Hospice Care.
The charity voted for by the English team was Help for Heroes, reflecting the wide-felt support for our troops and, in particular, the many who return home in need of long term and, in some cases, permanent medical support.
For their part, the English care team (who are just good friends despite the jollity and pose of one or two members of the group), decided to get scrubbed-up and clean cars (right). And an even more energetic group (bottom), instigated by Matt Wallett, took to cycling. Whilst maybe not the Tour de France (maybe, next year?), nonetheless a demanding cycle ride was undertaken by a group of mainly novice cyclist and a good and, in part, painful time was had in aid of a very worthwhile cause.
Fund raising for 2010 continues all the way to the year-end, including a raffle at the company conference in December, and culminates by a notable donation by the company which, in 2009, matched the funds raised throughout the year by the employees.
The underlying philosophy is about caring – absolutely central to the company’s ethos.
